TESCO and Žabka in OD Máj – demanding retail Fit Out in the centre of Prague

As part of the complete reconstruction of the iconic Máj department store in the centre of Prague, we carried out a demanding build-out of retail units for our client TESCO. The result is a supermarket on two underground floors (1st floor and 2nd floor) and a modern Žabka store on the ground floor (1st floor) – both designed with an emphasis on high technical and design standards.

Exceptional conditions, exceptional result

The project took place in an environment with many constraints and challenges:

  • listed building from the 1970s,
  • limited building space and logistics in the centre of Prague,
  • the need for coordination with other concurrently implemented operations.

All this placed high demands on engineering, project management and technical coordination.

Our role and scope of services delivered

In the role of TDI, PM/CM and OHS coordinator we provided:

  • construction of a TESCO supermarket to the “hot shell” level according to the strict technical requirements of the tenant,
  • realization of the design-exceptional Žabka unit as part of a broader retail concept,
  • complete change management in the project (dozens of change sheets during the implementation),
  • demanding logistics without the possibility of extensive site facilities,
  • precise technical coordination with the general contractor (Metrostav) and other operations in the building,
  • management and supervision of functional tests of technologies (cooling, sprinklers, EPS, HVAC) and their commissioning,
  • impeccable completion and timely handover of the premises by the grand opening date of 20 June 2024.

Result

In record time, we delivered modern, fully functional retail units that combine respect for architecture and cultural heritage with the highest demands of contemporary retail. A project that exemplifies technical precision, efficient management and a professional approach in the most challenging conditions.
